WOW cards keeps on Bringing Smiles

I received an email from Marjorie de Bont-Felix. She has been having a grand time making my WOW birthday card. And she has done a wonderful job of customizing each one for the special people in her life. Check out these three she shared.

I have continued sharing creative approaches to this file at the end of the tutorial here https://3dcuts.com/candle-card-2016-tutorial . This a great resource for getting inspired. If you would like to share your projects completed using my files, send photos of them to me at marji@3dcuts.com.

Owl Shadow Boxes

One of my favorite files is the series of fours owl shadow boxes I designed a couple of years ago. Recently René Rothen recently bought a Cricut Maker and made these as one of her first projects. She applied her own touch to the designs and switched it up some. I had kept the color scheme in each of them similar. She instead varied the color schemes to reflect the four seasons on the year.

That's A Lot of Candles!

Need an extra special birthday card?

Years ago I designed the much used WOW birthday card file. I designed it for a friend and have been so touched by how many people have taken that file, modified it, and given it to important people in their lives. It was a card designed to say "I truly care". So many have shared warm and happy stories about their giving it to those people who have too many candles to fit on a regular cake. But we needed a new design! We can't keep using that same one. My husband recently celebrated his birthday and we are of the age of too many candles, so I designed this card for him.

This card is 36" long and 9" tall. It can be modified to hold unto 120 candles! The cake topper can be customized as well. The entire card folds flat and can fit into a standard USPS Priority mail box for easy sending. I also included a gift box cutting file in the download.

You should check out all the modifications of the WOW card that I have added to the end of the tutorial here. It might give you some creative ideas on ways to customize this card as well. After you have made it and given it away be sure to share your photos and story in the facebook group posts or email it to me marji@3dcuts.com.

Valentines 2021 - New Ideas

February 14th is approaching but there is still plenty of time for crafting. Here are 3 new projects for you to try. First up is a guy card. They are often hard to find.

I experimented with metallic card stock. The goal was to create rivets. I used the head of a small finish nail to create the rivets. I wish I had the diamond metal embossing folder to emboss the background but I went looking and it isn’t part of my stash. Here are the links for this project:

I also designed a couple of new shadow boxes. The first one uses a modified Ledge Village cottage. I added some cute details but also re-sized it so it is thinner and will fit in a purchased 8 x 8” shadow box.

An optional addition is to install fairy lights in the cottage so it can light up. As always I included links to the supplies in the tutorial.

This shadow box would be perfect your Mom or grandma but not your teenager so….

I designed a contemporary one as well!

Making it Your Own

Sue Oberdorf of Florida recently shared her version of my Companionship shadow box project. She has friends that requested a very special customization to reflect who they are. Couples come in all shapes and sizes and Sue created this beautiful shadow box especially for them.

With basic drawing skills you can modify this file to match your individual situation. You can take the people layer into a drawing program (or Silhouette DS) and modify the people or the dog. You can use a silhouette of someone you love from a photo that you outline and resize to fit. Using cut and weld tools you can remove the figures I used and add your own.

I’d love to see any customizations that you create. Please share with me by sending to marji@3dcuts.com

Winter Wanderers - a customizable shadow box series

It is a new year so time for some new projects. What better way is there to get through a cold January than by crafting snowy shadow boxes! I have just introduced “Winter Wanderers”, a shadow box series with 5 variations. It all starts with a peaceful snowy winter scene that you can then customize. You might add a cross-country skier….

Or a couple out walking their dog…..

Or just the man walking the dog…..

Or a pair of snowshoers….

Or a women with her dog……

This download comes with all 5 options plus 2 beautiful sky choices to use for the background.  It is designed for a purchased frame (12 x 12” outside measurement - 111 x 11” inside). Links for all the supplies are included in the tutorial.

Ledge Village Cottage Shadow Box

This photo showed up in my Pinterest feed yesterday. Someone in Germany has used my Ledge Village Cottage file in a shadow box. I love the careful use of color for accent. So simple yet so beautiful!

Illuminated Deer at Moonrise

I designed the Deer at Moonrise Shadow box to not need lights. I wanted it to look beautiful even without the lights on. I chose colors and compositions that would give the essence of light without actually adding them. But I was thrilled to see the impact lights could have when Melanie Burton of New Zealand added them and shared this photo. Isn’t this amazing?
