Adding Numbers in the Shadow Box Series

It is graduation time and most celebrations include an annual date. That drove me to design the cutting files for the numerals to go along with the Alphabet Shadow Boxes.  Yesterday I finished! And I even made a little graduation cap to go along with the numbers.

My kids graduated years ago but their school colors were black and red so I used that theme. Adjust for your school colors!

But don't limit yourself to graduations. What other ideas do you have for using numbers along with the alphabet files?

  • The graduation cap is available here with the Numbers Shadow Boxes.
  • The Numbers cutting files are available here either as individual files or a complete set.
  • The Alphabet Shadow Boxes are available here.
  • Shadow Box Tutorial is here
  • Graduation Cap Tutorial is here.

Alphabet Shadow Box Measurements

I just got a nice email from Kari. She has been working on the Alphabet Shadow Boxes in Design Space. Apparently Design Space resizes .svg's when they are imported. She asked me to share the actual sizes of each layer to help her in resizing accurately.  I thought others might be interested in the numbers. (in inches)

  • Universal 1 (Just the box with out hanger) - 6.4505 w x 6.4307 h
  • Layer 2 - 5.8991 w x 5.9503 H
  • Layer 3 - 5.4915 w x 5.4908 H
  • Layer 4 - 5.1632 w x 5.1938 h
  • Universal Layer 5 - 6.3563 w x 6.3879 h
  • Universal Layer 6 - 4.7708 w x 4.7643 w

Happy Crafting everyone!

Chandi Walsh's designs and a Video Tutorial

I knew the Shadow Box Alphabet had loads of customization potential. But I was so busy creating all the files I had to limit my exploration. Lucky for us Chandi Walsh has taken my files and added an inspiring touch of herself to them.  She recently shared the following photos on my FB page.

She has a wonderful sense full of pizazz  in her design.  I love the background choice and the stars embellishment.  It is a great example of the degree of personalization that can be done with this set of files. What style!

Chandi's first project was a RELAX wall art piece for her bathroom. She created embellishments to match the shower curtain.

Best news of all...Chandi made a youTube video tutorial of the assembly process. She has a few variations on my techniques but does a beautiful job.  Visit her YouTube Chanel here.

WOW! Great Response and a new freebie

Finally, all things are in place and the response to the Alphabet Shadow Boxes has been terrific.  Thank you everyone! I have just uploaded another freebie design. It is the Letter O in the Shadow Box Series.  This is different from the one included in the Complete Alphabet download because it is straight up and down. The one in the Complete Set is on a tilt.

I'd love it if some people with other cutting machines downloaded the freebie and let me know what is working. For the people with Circuit Explore - I didn't use score lines. All fold lines are dashed lines. Can the Cricut Explore cut the dashed lines? Give it a try and let me know how it goes.  Thanks, Marji

What is next for Alphabet Shadow Boxes

Silhouette has finally gotten the Alphabet Shadow box posted on their site.  It took such a long time because they were short staffed in the design department last week. I also learned that they prefer to do alphabets in their entirety. I am limited to 12 uploads a week but they did allow me a few extras to get it all up in two weeks. Now that it is posted folks are migrating over to this site (Welcome everyone!) for the tutorial.  I have been getting some questions about other shadow box options.  My plans are to create the numbers 0-9 ( I need that for graduation!) and a set of shapes - especially the heart as shown in my MOM.

The heart is available with the MOM download here but I'll make a shapes group to include that plus a star and ampersand. I'll have to think of other shapes as well.  Any suggestions?

Sharing this post at some of these link parties. They are worth checking out for other ideas.

New Website

Welcome!

I am launching a new website and blog to promote the cutting files I have been creating. Until now they have only been available in .studio format for the Silhouette cutting machine.  I am now making them available in SVG, DFX and PDF formats for other cutting machines and hand cutting as well.

This new website will serve as a marketplace for those cutting files. Visit often to see what new items have been added!

Better yet. Sign up for my email list and I'll let you know about new additions!

What's Next?

I have been creating files for over a year and selling them via the Silhouette online Store since June of 2013. I have over 60 3D designs posted there. Which are your favorites? I plan to be re-drawing them one by one in Illustrator so they can be saved in .svg, .dfx, and .pdf formats. It would help it you let me know the design(s) you are most wishing for! Connect through to my portfolio in the Silhouette store here and let me know in the comments area which files you think I should work on first!
