Project Description

Combine paper and card stock together to create this stunning heart wreath design. A Scandinavian influence is visible in the simple lines and clear use of the heart shape.  This finished project can be hung vertically as door wreath or laid on a table as a center piece. Put a candle in the center or one of my heart tree Designs. The finished wreath is about 14.5" in diameter.

Steps for assembly of the Heart Wreath

1. Download the cutting files for your cutting machine.

2. Load the files into your cutting software following the steps for your cutting machine.

3. Prepare the files:.

  • Click here for detailed steps on how to use .SVG files on your Silhouette (with Design  Studio).
  • Click here for steps on how to use these .SVG files in Design Space with your Cricut Explore.

4.  Cut the shapes.

  • Cut 12 red paper folders. Use a paper that curls well. Card stock doesn't curl well. You can position 2 per each 8.5 x 11" paper.
  • Cut all remaining shapes from white card stock.  Amounts are noted in the plan to the right.

5. Assemble the 12 parts of the wreath.

  • Use adhesive to attach the white diamond to the inside of each red paper folder.
  • I used Aileen's spray glue for solid coverage. Xyron would work as well. Solid coverage is important for strength.
  • Align the diamond with the point in the center and leave equal margins at the top.

  • On the other side (the one with out the white diamond) apply 2 glue dots to the tab that extends off the side.

  • Curve the sides of the paper folder around the white diamond and secure the tab. Use the following steps.
  • First, on the white diamond side, fold up and crease the red paper at the bottom point. This crease should be short- no more than 1/2".

  • Next curve the sides up in a smooth curve working to not introduce crinkles in the paper.
  • Place the tab under the opposite side and press in place being sure to leave a gap with white diamond showing through.
  • Repeat on all 12 units.

  • Fold the 12 hearts with the dotted fold line.
  • Apply a complete covering of paper adhesive to the back of each heart and adhere it in front of the tab. This will reinforce this glue joint.
  • Repeat for all 12 units.

  • You should now have 12 matching wreath units.

6. Attach the 12 parts together to form the wreath.

  • Apply at 2" strip of strong tape adhesive to the side of one unit. I use Scor Tape. It should be positioned at the end near the curve and away from the point.

  • Flip the wreath over and glue a white heart over each seam. Use a complete coverage of a strong paper adhesive because these hearts will provide added strength. I used Ailleen's Tacky Spray.
  • This also makes an attractive back if the wreath is place on a glass door and visible from both sides.

The wreath is complete. You can hanging on your door, over the mantle or on the wall. Use super magnets and attach it to your fridge.

Or you can combine it with one of the 3D Heart trees from 3dcuts.com for a table centerpiece.

Happy Crafting,

Marji
